Keep coming back - we have a solution

When I was a kid and I was learning how to ride a bike I fell a number of times until I got the hang of it. Does that mean I never fell again?  No. Does that make me a failure at riding a bike?  No.

I have sponsees who will say, "I threw away...amount of sobriety" or "I'm starting all over again". They'd like to go back in time and change their bad decisions. I say, "God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change".  I always ask them, "do you want to stay sober right NOW?" If they answer is "yes". I say, "courage to change the things that I can". My sponsor reminds me that recovery is not a race and there is no end-game. Recovery and sobriety is a way of life.

The AA Big Book says, "We are not saints. The point is, that we are willing to grow along spiritual lines. The principles we have set down are guides to progress. We claim spiritual progress rather than spiritual perfection." (p. 60)

I am human and I will make mistakes. Hopefully, I won't make the same mistakes over and over again, but sometimes I'm slow on the uptake. I love the motto, "keep coming back". Mainly, because I need to keep coming back to hear the message - there is a solution!
